What does day 1 after liposuction feel like?
Day 1 is surgery day. Procedure typically 1-4 hours depending on scope. Recovery suite for 2-3 hours post-op (longer for sedation cases). Compression garment applied immediately. Walking encouraged within first hour. Pain mild to moderate — most patients describe it as soreness, not sharp pain. Prescribed analgesics manage well. Hotel transport via taxi by mid-afternoon. Light dinner and rest.
When does bruising peak?
Bruising peaks day 3-5 then fades progressively. Most extensive bruising at: lower abdomen (gravity-dependent area), inner thighs, flanks, back. Bruising fully resolves by week 2-3. Bruising appears worse than it actually feels — often dramatic-looking but minimal pain. Foundation makeup or compression clothing conceals adequately for social outings by day 4-5.
How much pain should I expect?
Pain is generally mild to moderate — not severe. Day 1: managed with prescribed analgesics, similar to post-workout soreness. Days 2-3: somewhat increased due to swelling, still manageable. Day 4 onwards: progressively reduces. Most patients only need prescribed pain medication for first 3-5 days; many stop earlier. Tickle Liposuction technique produces less pain than traditional. Internal Medicine-trained Dr. Pyeon ensures appropriate pain management throughout.
When can I shower after liposuction?
First shower: typically day 2 (24 hours post-op) per Dr. Pyeon's instructions. Initial showers: warm not hot, brief (5-10 min), no scrubbing of incision sites, gentle pat-dry. Compression garment removed for shower then re-applied. Full bathing/jjimjilbang/saunas banned for 4-6 weeks. See
shower timing guide
for details.
When does swelling go down?
Swelling has multiple phases: initial peak day 2-4 (most dramatic); rapid decrease days 5-7; slow continued decrease weeks 2-6; final swelling resolution months 3-6. Visible swelling can temporarily make area look fuller than starting point — this is normal and resolves. Lymphatic drainage massage starting week 2 dramatically accelerates swelling resolution. See
complete swelling timeline.
When can I return to work?
Office return timing by procedure: face procedures 5-7 days; single body area 5-7 days for office workers; combined areas 7-10 days; comprehensive multi-area 10-14 days. Physical labor jobs need longer (4-6 weeks). Most patients work from hotel days 5-7 if remote work possible. Compression garment manageable under business attire. See
exercise timing guide
for physical activity return.
When can I exercise again?
Light cardio (walking) at week 1; moderate cardio (stationary bike, elliptical) at week 2; full cardio at week 3-4; weightlifting at week 4-6; intense activity (HIIT, dance) at week 6-8. NO compression garment required (ART-FAT signature) total. Return to fitness gradually — over-doing too early causes prolonged swelling. Lymphatic drainage massage continues alongside exercise return.
What should I eat during recovery?
Recovery-friendly diet: high protein (chicken, fish, tofu) for healing; high water intake (3+ liters daily); fresh vegetables and fruits for nutrients; avoid processed foods, excessive salt, alcohol. Korean recovery foods particularly suitable: juk (rice porridge), sagol-guk (bone broth), bibimbap, banchan. First 24 hours: light foods only. Days 2+: normal diet with focus on protein and hydration. See
diet guide.
What about compression garment wear?
NO compression garment required (ART-FAT signature) (off only for shower); daytime-only weeks 3-6; discontinued at week 6-8. Specialized garments by procedure: standard compression for tumescent; foam-padded HD compression for HD Liposculpture; BBL cushion for fat grafting. Removing compression too early causes prolonged swelling. See
compression guide.
What happens at follow-up visits?
ARTNER follow-up visit schedule: day 1 post-op (immediate check), day 3-4 (drainage assessment), day 7 (suture removal if applicable), day 10-14 (lymphatic drainage initiation), pre-departure clearance. Each visit assesses: incision healing, swelling progression, compression fit, lymphatic drainage technique, any concerns. Internal Medicine-trained Dr. Pyeon leads all follow-up visits personally.
What warning signs should I watch for?
Call ARTNER immediately for: fever above 38°C/100.4°F; severe increasing pain (not gradual decrease); excessive bleeding from incision; sudden severe swelling; redness/heat at incision site (infection signs); chest pain or difficulty breathing (rare blood clot signs); leg pain/swelling (DVT signs). Most patients have none of these. ARTNER's 24/7 WhatsApp access during Seoul stay enables quick response. After return home: 6-month WhatsApp follow-up provides continued access.
